Failure is a relative word, freighted with connotations of disaster. No one lives long without experiencing at least some failure: as a child, with childish expectations, who among us hasn't wished for something to come true, worked towards it, and then cried when our plans fell through? Failure as an adult brings more tears as our hopes reach ever higher, and crash still harder.
Experiencing failure builds integrity and gives you the opportunity to learn that you will not succeed at everything you set out to do. For some individuals taking risks and the possibility of failing does not come easy. People fear the consequence of failure and often will look at a situation for the potential for something to go wrong. If you never take a risk and the chance you might fail, you may be missing opportunities at the chance of being part of something new and exciting. Many people have failed many times before experiencing success, these are the people who understand that failure is not a reason to quit.
The learning process can be painful and difficult sometimes; some skills are not easy to master and the sense of achievement when we finally succeed brings pleasure. To achieve success we have, sometimes, to examine our understanding of a subject, how we view how others live, to moderate our perceptions of the world. If we can overcome the shock and disappointment of a failure, we have the tools to develop into a broader, more understanding person with a greater insight into the world.
Successful people use failure as the motivation to try harder. How many failures did NASA have before Neil Armstrong set foot on the moon? What we don't always appreciate in that historic event are the incredible advances in virtually every aspect of science and technology that occurred through the pursuit if this amazing objective.Thomas Edison is said to have failed more than 10,000 times while working on the light bulb, but said, "If I find 10,000 ways something doesn't work, I haven't failed. I am not discouraged, because every wrong attempt discarded is another step forward". Over the course of his life, many of his failures in some areas resulted in new inventions in others.Countless failures, fretted over and investigated, took humanity to unimaginable heights and incalculable results.Life is full of challenges, and how we decide to face those challenges is what ultimately determines our direction in life. Developing the drive to persevere in the face of adversity strengthens character, giving us the ability to handle even greater challenges in the future.
Failure is simply a roadblock along the course toward our final destination. We must find a way to move around those challenges and continue on our journey. Many people that achieve prominence in their chosen fields have stumbled at some point. The difference is that they did not give up. Instead, they view failure as a challenge, a temporary setback causing them to learn from their mistakes.
"Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new," Albert Einstein.Failure is not the end, and yes everyonefails at something from time to time. It is nothing to feel shame about or hide from. We have all been there and we have all survived. Failure may be at work or in apersonal relationship that did not work. You may have felt that you have been given an unlucky hand. Failure is just showing you that there is something different you need to do at work or in your relationships. Failure does not identify you personally, it identifies change is needed.
The bottom line is that you need to learn from failure is an important learning tool. If you do not understand that fact, you may be afraid to ever take any risks again because of the fear of failure. Take advantage of the lessons learned when you failed at something. We always learn from everything we do, but many individuals fail to recognize the lessons learned. Failure can build a stronger and smarter person because they have taken the opportunity to benefit from failure instead of choosing to disappear in the woodwork and never try anything new again.
Failure is part of the maturing process, but except for those who can't see the opportunities presented by it; it's an integral part of the success equation that drives us forward. Those whose circumstances rarely experience success cause the rest of us to be mindful of them and to assist them as a compassionate society must.
No one has success 100% of the time, many times it may take a few failures to get it right. It is all right to allow yourself to fail, because the best result is that you learn what you can, pick up the pieces and start again. Trying new things and taking risks does not come easy for many people, mainly because they are afraid of failure. The message here is that do not feel defeated by failure and think of it as a educational experience.Perhaps Winston Churchill said it best: "Success is going from failure to failure without a loss of enthusiasm." When we view our failures as challenges, we're able to maintain the enthusiasm needed to rejoin the fight
